I wanted to do something fun for Elena’s first birthday party. When deciding on a 1st birthday party idea and theme I tried to think of things I knew she liked, which sometimes is hard with a 1 year old. 😉 I did know that she liked wearing necklaces and dressing up, so we decided to throw her a dress up birthday party.
Our family and friends were invited to come dressed in dressy attire. I loved it. Even our little man Jack looked very handsome and dressed up. Elena LOVED all the attention, loved the necklaces she got to wear, and even decided to walk with us. We had a fun dance party, ate some delicious food, and just enjoyed our little girl.
I made a Happy Birthweek (we celebrate an entire week leading up to their birthday) and hung that up on the wall. I meant to string up a “Birthday” sign with her name, but ran out of time. I bought most of my supplies from WalMart (really the only thing we have in-town) for the party supplies. I got some cute turquoise square paper plates with little dots around the inside edge (that reminded me of pearls – score), and similar smaller pink plates as well. The napkins that coordinated had black, pink, green and blue stripes in it as well with white circles that swirled around too – and were actually the inspiration behind the color choice and invitation. 🙂
I don’t know how to sew, but I do know how to hot glue and tape. 🙂 I bought birthday hats from the $1 store and then wrapped cute scrapbook paper around it and glued it in place. I thought it was a fun touch for her birthday to have a cute hat with her age. 🙂
We used blue, pink, and green food coloring swirled in the cupcakes (colors of the party), draped crepe paper across the ceiling, and I made cute tissue paper pom-poms that I hung from the ceiling as well.
I also incorporated wrapping paper that coordinated with the party theme colors. I put a square on the table and then wrapped a flower vase with the wrapping paper and used some flowers as a table centerpiece.
Notice in the shot below, our nephew Jimmy is even wearing a bow tie for the occasion. Too cute.
And since I think she’s cute, here are some cake shots of her on her actual birthday after the party. 🙂
