Tommi’s Momma Bird Baby Shower – Party Ideas

When my sister-in-law Tommi was pregnant with her first baby I threw a fun “Momma Bird” baby shower that I wanted to share with you today.

Invite: I designed Tommi’s invitation using the baby bird pictures I found (link below). I wanted something that clearly showed what the theme and colors were and I thought it turned out cute. I just printed them through Alpha Graphics on cardstock, had them cut them, and put them in 5×7 invitation envelopes I bought from Walmart or somewhere.

The shower was a hit. I hung up a cute baby boy bird sign on our {bright red} door letting everyone know that this was the place to come. The sign coordinated with the rest of the decorations.

I also hung up baby pictures from the ceiling as a type of baby mobile. They were probably my favorite decoration. I found scrapbook paper in the colors of the party (yellow, brown, and turquoise) and printed out 4×6 pictures of babies. You can print out stock photos of cute newborns I’m sure, but I just printed out pictures from photo sessions I had done. {I take a LOT of newborn pictures if you couldn’t tell}. I also added baby pictures of the family for fun.

With the theme being baby bird shower I made cute little nest cupcakes. I fried up some coconut in a frying pan with a little vanilla and butter, and put it on the cupcakes with little cadberry eggs I had saved from Easter. I thought they turned out so cute.

The buffet table was also really great. We were living on a starving student {college} income budget, so I tried to find ways to make it look nice with out breaking the bank. Instead of just placing out the utensils and napkins, I folded them up together and tied them with cute turquoise ribbon. It didn’t cost me barely anything, but it still made things look a little nicer. I also found serving tray platters at the dollar store that looked a little fancier than paper plates. I also found turquoise buckets from the dollar bins at target and used them to put my party favors and candy.

I also wanted to incorporate the “Mama Bird” part of the theme, so I bought a few ceramic birds from the dollar store, and a bird house from WalMart for $2, and painted them in the shower colors. I thought they did a great job adding a fun feel to the table. I put them on top of upside down kitchen bowls I had to give the table a little more dimension.

I also made my own tablecloth with the help of a friend out of a bedsheet I bought for $5 from Walmart.

Blue bird peeps (placed on top of nest paper on a tray for my bird theme), cinnamon rolls, fruit salad, muffins, and donut holes. We had a brunch, so I focused on brunch food. I also added some candy because Tommi has a sweet tooth. 😉 For the drink I made turqouise (bright blue) kool-aid and also served water.

I thought the party was a success and was very happy with how it turned out.

If you like the signs I have for the banner and the door you can find the free printables that I used for this party here {from Hostess with the Mostess}. Awesome, right? They really helped with the theme, I think.
